To accelerate action through Global Climate Action Agenda, the COP31 Presidency recently announced global targets across some priority themes. 

The Climate Champions Team is supporting COP31 Presidency to demonstrate implementation of COP31 global targets driven by local and regional governments, which will be showcased  across Climate High Level Champions channels – including Yearbook on Global Climate Action, COP31 events, regular releases, and the COP31 Action Agenda Outcomes Report. 

We invite members of the LGMA Constituency  to share recent progress, updates and  announcements from your initiatives, global projects and concrete local actions across these flagship and priority areas under COP31:

1. COP31 global target of Axis 1: Transitioning Energy, Industry, Transport on Electrification. What recent progress have your organization/entity made towards the COP31 global electrification target to raise the share of final energy demand met by electricity from just over 20% today to 35% by 2035?
2. COP31 global target of Axis 4: Building Resilience for Cities, Infrastructure and Water. What recent progress have your organization/entity made towards the COP31 global waste target to halve the growth in global waste by 2035?
3. COP31 global target of Axis 4: Building Resilience for Cities, Infrastructure and Water. What recent progress have your organization/entity made towards the COP31 global Resilient Cities target to reduce energy consumption intensity in the building sector by at least 25% by 2035?

Channels for communicating your progress

1. We encourage you to register ongoing global initiatives through the UNFCCC NAZCA through this link if you have not done so already, and to update your actions through the NAZCA portal (Initiative-level update window is open between 1-30 September). 
2. We will work with Plans to Accelerate Solutions (PAS) Host Organisations to collect PAS progress updates between 5- 30 October. If you are already contributing to a PAS, we encourage you to engage your PAS Host Organisation to ensure your progress is captured. 
3. Please share with Braulio Diaz [brauliodiaz@climatechampions.team] and Shivi Dwivedi [shividwivedi@climatechampions.team]  any plans relating to above COP31 areas, and plans for second semester 2026, including across key milestones such as Climate Week NYC, Climate Week Baku and COP31. You’re also welcome to reach out to them for any questions or queries around any of the processes listed above.
