New Race to Zero progress report shows action in the real economy
Over 1,162 cities have joined Race to Zero, a 2% increase since 2022. These cities are 1.5 times more likely to declare long-term net zero targets. Among them, 84% report having climate action plans, an 18% increase from 2022, showcasing a growing commitment to embedding climate action in urban processes.
Call for nature-positive cities and regions in COP28 presidential session
At a session convened by the COP28 Presidency, High Level Champions, UNEP, ICLEI, the World Bank and Global Commons Alliance to rally cities and regions, the UN Climate Change High-Level Champion for COP28 H.E. Razan al Mubarak advanced a soft call on nature-positive urban development.
Just launched: Climate Migration and Displacement peer learning
At COP28, UCLG presented a peer learning note on Local and Regional Governments' Responses to Climate induced Migration and Displacement summarizing the outcomes of their global peer learning on Climate induced human mobility organized last July as part of the Mayors Mechanisms' Call to Local Action for Migrants and Refugees.
