The NDC Partnership at COP25: 60+ Events in 12 Days

The NDC Partnership is gearing up to present an exciting slate of 60+ events at its second Pavilion at COP25 in Madrid, Spain from 2 - 13 December. As countries come together to discuss progress in meeting Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and the effective implementation of the Paris Agreement, the Partnership will celebrate its third anniversary with a dynamic series of events featuring champions leading the way in making climate action and development a global priority.

Last year at COP24, the NDC Partnership hosted its first ever Pavilion. Featuring over 50 events from a range of members, highlights included high-level announcements such as welcoming the NDC Partnership’s new Co-Chairs and launching ambitious climate action plans such as the Dominican Republic’s NDC Partnership Plan

Now at over 160 members strong, the NDC Partnership is the largest global coalition working together to accelerate transformational climate action. Following this year of great growth, the Partnership will host even more lively programming. With over 60 scheduled events hosted by more than 50 members, the NDC Partnership Pavilion will be a platform for members to share lessons learned, best practices, and other inspirational stories of NDC enhancement and implementation to spark conversations and spur action as we collectively work to fulfill the goals of the Paris Agreement.

In addition to hosting the third Annual Members Forum and High-Level Celebration led by our Steering Committee Co-chairs, Minister Kaag, the Kingdom of the Netherlands’ Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, and Minister Rodriguez, Costa Rica’s Minister of Environment and Energy, the Partnership will organize four events that focus on topics such as NDC implementation and enhancement, climate finance, and lessons learned from the Partnership’s past three years. These events include:

Mainstreaming Climate Action Through Investment Planning

Wednesday 4 December from 12:00 to 13:00 in the NDC Partnership Pavilion, Hall 6

NDC investment planning is one of the most frequently requested areas of support from Partnership country members, as many countries struggle to design NDC investment plans that meet the investment criteria of multiple and varied funding sources. This is further complicated by the fact that many members of the NDC Partnership have different perspectives on what constitutes an investment plan. Come hear from experts as they demystify NDC Investment Plans and clarify minimum investment criteria necessary for a successful plan. (A light lunch will be provided at the end of the session.)

Leading the Charge on Climate Action: Joint NDC Partnership Plan Launch

Monday 9 December from 17:30 to 19:00 in the NDC Partnership Pavilion, Hall 6

In 2019, a number of NDC Partnership member countries developed NDC Partnership Plans, outlining key NDC priorities, needs, and gaps for the coming years while matching these with support from partners and other Partnership members. With strong involvement from environment, planning, and finance ministries, countries are making real strides towards accelerating the implementation of their NDCs and raising climate ambition. In this joint launch event, countries and partners will showcase their climate leadership, and look ahead to what is required to successfully implement their ambitious climate and development goals. (A reception will follow the event.)

Next-level NDCs: Raising Ambition with the NDC Partnership’s Climate Action Enhancement Package

Tuesday 10 December from 15:45 to 17:15 in the Capacity-building Hub

The Climate Action Enhancement Package (CAEP) is a new offering of the NDC Partnership designed to deliver targeted, fast-track support to countries to enhance the quality and increase the ambition of their NDCs. This event will provide an overview of CAEP’s progress to date and key insights into how countries are approaching enhancement and setting themselves up to submit more ambitious NDCs in 2020. Through CAEP’s first round, 50 countries will be receiving technical and capacity building support from over 30 implementing partners. Presentations will cover CAEP results to date, key trends in and tools for NDC enhancement, and specific insights from countries and implementing partners leading innovative efforts to increase ambition.
