#FossilFreeTransport: A call to double the share of energy efficient and fossil-free forms of land transport by 2030

Transport enables prosperity and livelihoods. But current paradigms of how people and goods are moved and how transport systems are powered also bring growing emissions, air pollution and energy demand. To achieve decarbonised and sustainability pathways, we need drastic reductions in emissions and energy demand coupled with improved access to integrated land transport systems that do not use fossil fuels. The call has already been endorsed by a wide variety of NGOs, city networks, countries and businesses.

LGMA text recommendations for Parties

This COP has seen some great achievements for the recognition of subnationals' role in achieving the objectives of the Paris Agreement, including the launch of the Coalition for High Ambition Multi-level Partnerships (CHAMP) and Urbanization Ministerial. However, these developments are not currently reflected in the currently negotiated Global Stocktake outcomes.

To make sure that the GST negotiators incorporate necessary references to subnational action and multilevel governance, LGMA prepared text recommendations to be shared with Parties. If you are interested in joining our efforts, please email lgma@iclei.org to request a copy of the recommendations.

Session recording: From commitment to delivery – financing multilevel action

Recorded on Tuesday, 5 December, this session gives an update on CHAMP initiative and its endorsement by national governments with a specific on latest findings on financing multilevel action. You can also hear a dialogue among national, subnational governments and their partners for an assessment on these achievements and implementation towards COP30 in Belem, Brazil in 2025.
