Cities are leading on the frontlines of climate action. They account for at least 60% of our greenhouse gas emissions and they are on the level of government that directly deals with climate impacts – including rising sea levels for coastal communities, wild fires, heat domes and flooding.
In this context, multilevel collaboration between cities, civil society, provincial and federal government, has never been more important.
The Cities + COP26 Initiative at the Simon Fraser University Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue is proud to present Moving Beyond COP: Rethinking Multilateral Action in Canada, a panel discussion taking place at 16:30 GMT at the Multilevel Action Pavilion.
This session will bring together representatives from municipal, provincial and national levels to discuss the important role of Canadian cities in advancing strong domestic multilevel climate action.
We will surface how we can move Canada beyond pledges and commitments and into real action. Our work does not end with COP26, but we can use this opportunity to shift our trajectory towards greater ambition. We look forward to the depth of expertise this discussion will bring.
