‘We have heard you loud and clear’

‘On behalf of the ministry, I would like to emphasize very clearly that your suggestions are heard by us’ said Hans-Joachim Fuchtel, Parliamentary State Secretary to the German Federal Minister for

Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) to the assembled mayors and officials at the Climate Summit of Local and Regional Leaders. ‘We will take action in Germany to ensure cities will be equipped with finance and strengthened so municipal cooperation can be expanded to a much greater extent’ [remarks have been translated]. Secretary Fuchtel stressed the importance of sharing good practices to accelerate local climate action as well as the unique opportunity to build cities that are independent of fossil fuels, considering that 60% of the urban infrastructure that will exist win 2030 has not yet been built.
