Ashok Sridharan was born June 15, 1965 in Bonn and is a German local politician for the CDU party. The lawyer was elected on 13 September 2015 as the Mayor of Bonn and took office on October 21, 2015.
Sridharan brings 20-years of municipal administrative experience, having worked for the City of Königswinter since 1996. In 2002 he was elected to the city council as First Assistant Secretary and Treasurer and by 2010, he was the Head of Finance, school, sports, culture and town twinning. From 2010 to 2015 Sridharan was Deputy Mayor of Königswinter and Head of Finance, Human Resources, Organization, IT and Controlling.
In 2015 he takes over as the Mayor of Bonn, successor to Mayor Jürgen Nimptsch.
Sridharan’s father arrived in Germany from India in 1957 as a diplomat and his mother comes from Bonn, where Sridharan attended high school and studied law at the University of Bonn. After graduating he worked as a lawyer at the district administration of the Rhein-Sieg district.
Sridharan has three sons with his wife Petra of twenty-seven years.
