‘’We are in a race against time’’ UNFCCC Executive Secretary Patricia Espinosa reminded participants at the Summit, ‘’We must act and with great urgency if we are to keep global temperature rise as close to 1.5 degrees as possible.’’ She thanked local leaders for their inspirational contributions as captured in the Bonn-Fiji Commitment and repeated the call for a more coordinated, cohesive multi-level response. ‘’If we can point urban development squarely at the Paris Agreement and SDGs, than we can keep our climate and our sustainability goals within reach … in order to protect the well-being of our people and our planet.’’ She concluded by saying ‘’You can count on the UNFCCC to be at your side to support your enagement – thank you for being here and thank you for your leadership, looking at you, I know we will get the work done!’’
