MRV on NPS consultations: no consensus emerged

As was announced during the opening plenary of the COP, the COP President convened a stocktaking plenary on 11 November to provide progress updates on all bodies as well as on the outcomes of the informal consultations on the pre-2020 ambition and MRV of NPS.

Regarding Pre-2020, Ambassador Mekouar on behalf of the COP 22 Presidency reported that Parties showed willingness to engage in a constructive manner in order to find a way forward on this important issue. Efforts were made to seek consensus and find a common ground. However, no consensus emerged among Parties.

Regarding the MRV on NPS, the COP 22 Presidency stated that Parties agreed on the importance of continuing to encourage ambitious climate action by NPS, showing willingness to engage in a constructive manner in order to find a way forward on this important issue. Efforts were made to seek consensus and find a common ground. However, no consensus emerged among Parties.

The COP President thanked the COP 22 Presidency and remarked that he will continue to consult with Parties on these two important issues to find a way forward.
