Mozambique is facing on the one hand droughts and on the other flooding in addition to devastating cyclones, at the same time as rapid urban growth. Calisto Cossa, President of the Municipal Council from Matola, Mozambique highlighted the need to identify risks, educate citizens and policy makers, and transform urban systems. We cannot continue in the same way, he explained, new methods of business, of finance, and of governance are needed to combat the immense challenges that climate change bring. Local governments should not only act as service managers but also as leaders for change, which starts with innovating our economies and financial systems.
