H.E. Lorna Eden, Fiji’s Assistant Minister for Local Government, Housing and Environment welcomed the Frontline Cities and Islands initiative, developed by ICLEI and GLISPA. The new initiative connects cities in small island states as well as other shoreline cities to improve access to best practice solutions and knowledge for mitigating and adapting to climate change. ‘
’Harnessing the drive of local governments worldwide is one important way to build the grand coalition’’ she noted, citing the goal the Fiji presidency has set for COP23. “We know that cities and towns are very good at solving problems … Fiji hopes to be among the first to take advantage of this initiative’’ she said, urging her fellow SIDS to join with them in the new network.
